Parkinson’s Support Group
The Geauga County Department on Aging offers once a month Support Group for those diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Spouses/partners, caregivers, and family members of those diagnosed with Parkinson’s are also welcome. New topics are covered each month. The Support Group meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 12:30-1:30pm at the Chardon Senior Center located at 470 Center Street, Building 8, in Chardon.
Pedaling for Parkinson’s
These small classes will be using Peloton bikes donated by Cleveland Clinic. Experts believe cycling can help increase certain proteins in the brain that help with movement and cognitive function – making it one of the most beneficial activities for keeping Parkinson’s symptoms in check. You will need to bring a water bottle and towel. Space is limited! Classes are held Tuesday and Thursdays from 11:15AM -12:15PM, at Ohman Family Living at Holly, located at 10190 Fairmount Road, in Newbury.
Fighting Against Parkinson’s
Fighting against Parkinson’s is a non-contact boxing style class for seniors diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease whose symptoms are mild to moderate. The goal of this program is to delay the progression of Parkinson’s symptoms. Strength, speed, balance, and flexibility will be worked on through a variety of exercises and core conditioning. The focus of this program is to Improve your overall fitness levels, maintain a strong healthy body while working on postural imbalances and increase your core strength. Classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9:30-11:00AM, at the Chardon Senior Center located at 470 Center Street, Building 8, Chardon, OH 44024. There is a monthly fee of $45 per month for unlimited classes.

Diabetes Self-Management Class
If you or someone you know has diabetes, the GDA offers a six-week workshop. You’ll get the support you need to manage sugar control, find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, and discover better nutrition and exercise choices. You will also learn about new treatment choices and better ways to talk with your doctor and family about your health. This class is free for all GDA registered seniors.
